As a family-owned company, the Silhouette Group thinks not from one balance sheet to the next, but from one generation to the next. When it comes to reducing carbon emissions through our own efforts, we are true pioneers in the industry. Since September 2022, our eyewear production has been carbon-neutral with compensation—reaching a target that many companies have set for 2030, eight years ahead of schedule.

We are committed to leading by example in the future, which is why we have established a dedicated task force to continuously reduce our emissions. At the Silhouette, Group we only offset what we currently cannot reduce. To do so, we purchase certificates from international Gold Standard projects. As transparency is one of our core values, our carbon footprint is independently audited every year. However, our mission is zero emissions, and we are working tirelessly to achieve this goal.

Renewable Energy in Ceará, Brazil.

Illegal logging is a significant problem in Brazil. The “Renewable Energy in Ceará, Brazil” project is the first Gold Standard project in the highly threatened Caatinga region. Native firewood and charcoal account for 30% of industrial energy in this area. The project has switched the fuel source of five ceramic factories to agricultural and industrial residues—biomass instead of wood and coal. This change not only reduces waste but also improves conditions in the region, as locals can deliver their biomass waste directly to the factory. Social and environmental initiatives are also supported, including reforestation with native seedlings and the construction of houses through donations. Additionally, the project uses wastewater from a local beverage manufacturer to conserve freshwater resources in the drought-stricken region.

Brazil is an important market for the Silhouette Group, where we are also represented with our own subsidiary. We are particularly pleased that our colleagues can visit the project in person and see the improvements in the region with their own eyes.
